Object Description
An Ancient Roman, Sidonian flask mould blown from bright translucent yellow glass. The vessel’s globular body raises from a flat circular foot, to then taper into a short cylindrical neck with a wide tubular rim. A single handle is applied at the shoulder, then drawn up and outwards, and folded onto the rim. A delicate decoration enriches the body, comprised of a central frieze with a curling motif, framed by two horizontal ridges at either side. Short radiating ridges form a specular pattern above and below the central decorative register. Some earthy encrustations and iridescence remain on the vessel’s surface. The flask is mounted on a custom-made stand.
N.B. the glass can not stand unaided.
