Object Description
A Roman, tinned bronze knee-type fibula formed into a double dolphin. The bow is formed from two parallel dolphins, their heads resting atop a cylindrical, horizontal bar. A pair of pin lugs have been attached another to form the hinge of a copper-alloy axis bar. This attaches to the loop of a copper pin, which is still intact but does not move. Attention has been paid to the arched bodies of the dolphins, incised to form the dorsal fin, side flippers and rear median notches of their tails. The two dolphins meet in the middle, joined by their inside fins and their tails. An elongated catch plate sits underneath the undulating curve of their tails.
