Object Description
A very fine Romano-British bronze fibula, known as the Aucissa type. It features a thin and wide long bow, highly arched into a D-shaped profile. The bow features a decorated central rib with cavetto moulding and two vertical bands to the edges with notched decoration. The bow narrows at its foot, known as the leg, which has been decorated with three registers; two lateral grooves, followed by rising middle section and terminating in the third and final flattened register. To the top of the bow, it widens into a rectangular, flat plate, decorated with a band of notched decoration to the top. Furthermore, the plate features two circular incisions, known as eyes, to each side. The end of the plate curls upwards around the axis pin. The pin itself is circular and narrows to a point, which rests within a triangular, undecorated catch plate.
