Rosewood Portico Regulator Mantel Clock

Housed in a fine quality Rosewood portico case with boxwood stringing, turned pillars with brass capitals, gilded cast foliate bezel and standing on an inlaid stepped base.
Silvered dial with Roman numerals, inset subsidiary seconds dial and original ‘blued’ steel Moonpoise hands, the dial signed ‘Gounouilhou et Geneve’ and numbered 16981.
Eight day movement with pinwheel escapement, outside countwheel and adjustable beat facility striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell the backplate also signed and numbered by the maker.
Nine rod compensated pendulum with circular brass bob. C.1840
Pierre-Simon Gounouilhou (1779-1847) was born in France and moved to Geneva, Switzerland in 1799 becoming a master clockmaker including repeating, musical and automation watches and clocks.

Object Condition

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
