Object Description
Russian cloisonné enamel and silver gilt egg
Russian, 20th Century
Height 7cm, diameter 5cm
The complex technique of cloisonné enamelling is expertly employed on this delicate Russian egg.
Decoration includes scrolling motifs, flowers, and bands of circles. All are rendered in shades of blue, red, green, and white. The egg opens to reveal a silver gilt interior in which one can store precious collectables. All patterns are placed on top of the silver-coloured background, its darker shade bringing out the bright enamel colours.
The egg is marked with spurious markings in Cyrillic and the ‘84’ zolotnik mark.
Celebrating Russia’s long tradition of jewelled eggs, this collectable would be a charming addition to one’s interior space.
