This kovsch is a meticulously crafted piece, made by marrying the lustrous appeal of silver gilt, with the vibrancy of cloisonné enamel. The kovsch takes the shape of a water bird, its avian form serving dual purposes – a feast for the eyes and a making it practical serving vessel. This design draws inspiration from the earliest forms of kovschs.
One of the most compelling features of this kovsch is its elongated neck and beak coupled with a diminutive tail. The elongated neck doubles as an ergonomic handle while the ‘bird’s’ body, the bowl, becomes the vessel for pouring liquids.
Adorned with intricate cloisonné enamel, the kovsch displays a dazzling array of floral arabesques and figural flower compositions, paying homage to traditional Russian ornamentation. This elaborate technique involves applying enamel colour to a metallic base, followed by a process of firing and polishing, resulting in a mesmerizing spectrum of design elements.
