Object Description

A splendid leather trunk by makers R.W. Forsyth of Glasgow and Edinburgh, circa1910 with solid brass fittings and the original lining to the interior. Faded initials, C.G.O.M. can be made out on the ends of the trunk.

The brass lock plate is hand engraved, Knock Castle. Largs.
The castle is situated on the west coast of Ayrshire, Scotland with views over the Firth of Clyde, close to the town of Largs.

“The trunk was made to last with the corners and handles over 15mm thick and made of 4 thicknesses of cowhide. Not surprisingly the trunk weighs 20Kg – perhaps more suitable as a coffee table than a piece of luggage,” says Tim Bent, the founder of Bentleys. “Forsyth was one of the leading department stores in Scotland and their luggage was excellent quality, sturdy and of traditional construction.”

Dimensions: 92 cm/36¼ inches (length) x 54 cm/21¼ inches (depth) x 35 cm/13¾ inches (height).
