Object Description
Set of four 19th century upholstered walnut X-frame stools
Italian, c. 1840
Height 53cm, width 49cm, depth 40cm
Wonderfully made in Italy in around 1840, this set of four X-frame stools is a demonstration of high-quality and refined Italian furniture design.
Each stool consists of a pared down frieze, under which are superbly shaped and scrolled X-form supports. These are joined together by a turned baluster cross stretcher and each X-shaped formation is centred by a walnut roundel.
The walnut frame is topped by an expertly upholstered seat and cushion. The plush upholstery is executed from a greenish blue luxurious textile. The edge trims are of the same colour with pops of cream strips of thread to add an interesting aesthetic feature. The four corners of the large cushions are ornamented with prominent tassels.
The set can be displayed together or separately and would act as a decorative and functional home décor.
