Object Description
A good set of four George III period silver wine/decanter coasters, which are beautifully hand pierced in Gothic style.
Each coaster has a vacant cartouche and still retains its original mahogany inserts.
They were made in the year of Americas independence from Britain-1775/6 by the London silversmith Richard Meach.
Sets like this were traditionally made for decanters containing for example, Port, Sherry, Madeira and Claret but are now more commonly used for wine bottles on a table. A very good set which are a nice size for modern use.
Dimensions, diameter 12 cm, height 3.5 cm.
