Object Description
Set of four English engraved and cut glass ship’s decanters
English, Early 20th Century
Height 24cm, diameter 18cm
In a set of two closely matching pairs, these charming glass decanters are wonderful antique pieces with which to store and serve spirits and liqueurs, having been crafted in the early part of the twentieth century in England. Two of them are engraved ‘Outward Bound’ and show galleon-like ships travelling in one direction, while the other two are engraved ‘Homeward Bound’ and depict ships travelling in the other.
They feature a ribbed pyramidal design with concentric circles, a ridged base, and virtually identical stoppers. The pieces differ slightly in terms of the lengths of the necks, which in fact only adds to the charming, quaint, and quirky nature of these fine antique pieces, the ideal items with which to serve spirits.
