Object Description
Superb gilded silver shotgun cartridge match case with part leather covering and sprung lid. Originally designed to keep matches inside and when needed, you could strike the head of a match across the ridges on the surface of the closed lid. The silver hallmarks are London 1882 and the maker’s mark is for silversmiths Thomas Johnson who were suppliers to prestigious retailers including Walter Thornhill of Bond Street and William Leuchars of Piccadilly. Would now make a great pill box.
Dimensions: 2 cm/2⅛ inches (diameter) x 5.25 cm/3¾ inches (height)
