Object Description
Small bronze sculpture of of ‘Ariadne Riding a Panther’ after a masterpiece by Johann Heinrich von Dannecker (1758-1841). The original Marble sculpture is perhaps one of the best-known German sculptures of the 19th century (exhibited at Liebighaus, Frankfurt). Dannecker shows Ariadne riding, lying in divine nakedness on one of Dionysius’ panthers. Overall, the pose creates a contour of extended repose, embracing the whole sculpture.
