A good early twentieth century mahogany-cased 8-inch dial fusee railway clock from the London And North Eastern Railway, later re-signed as British Rail (Eastern Region), and numbered 12819.
The case has a round base with pendulum access door, and a hinged side door.
The 8-day fusee timepiece movement by Smiths is stamped with the serial number 18771, with screwed pillars and rectangular plates.
Spun brass bezel.
This clock came to us from a relative of a Signalman and latterly a Signals Inspector on Eastern Region, who believes that the clock was installed in the Thorpe Junction Signal Box outside Norwich. Official railway records show that this serial number replaced clock number 3705 which was condemned on 18th June 1956. Also that it was under the control of the Aylsham station master, indicative of a location in The Aylsham signal box. (about half an hour from Thorpe junction).
The movement is overhauled, and guaranteed for 3 years.
