Object Description
A late 19th century French gilt brass striking repeating carriage clock with alarm, in its original leather carrying case.
The re-gilded cannalee case is smaller than average. At 5¾ inches tall this is sometimes referred to as three-quarter sized. It is in perfect condition, with beveled glasses to all sides, and a large rectangular glass in the top to view the platform.
The signed white enamel Arabic dial is signed for the original retailer J.G. Girod, Madrid with Arabic numerals and blued steel lancet hands Below this is a subsidiary alarm setting dial.
The 8-day movement retains the original silvered lever platform escapement with cut and compensated bi-metallic balance, and strikes and repeats the hours on a blued steel gong.
