Object Description

Staffordshire creamware figure which features a spaniel on a tassled cushion, seated on a shaped hollow base. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent holes are present. Book reference,’English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840′ by Pat Halfpenny, page 90, figure 2.

Object Condition

Generally good. A few small flakes to the underside base edge. KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze; firing hole to dog’s left ear; a few flecks of stray coloured glaze. RESTORATION. Two stabilised and retouched hairlines to the upper base, one still slightly visible across one corner of the cushion. Remodelled tail. Stabilised and retouched crack to the mold join across spaniel’s back and both ears. Two stabilised and retouched hairlines to rear-end of the cushion base, next to the tassels.
