Staffordshire fishing boat figure group

Object Description

Staffordshire figure with a occupational theme which features a sailor/fisherman and his wife on board a fishing boat, with fishing nets and a basket of fish, resting on an oval base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent holes to reverse and underside. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 3, by A.& N. Harding, page 191, figure a2121A.

Object Condition

Good. Shallow chip to the underside. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front; piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle. RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses baskets, hair and boat.
