Staffordshire sailor figure

Object Description

Staffordshire figure with a maritime theme which features a sailor, stood on an oblong base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 245, figure 871.

Object Condition

Good. No restoration. Small paint loss to neckerchief. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to the base rim to the underside; flecks of stray coloured glaze to sailor’s left leg at reverse; small firing pits to side of pillar.
