Staffordshire sailor figure

Object Description

Staffordshire figure with a maritime theme which features a sailor, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the reverse. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 241, figure 848.

Object Condition

Generally good. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the base and right hand; flecks of stray coloured glaze to the reverse. RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to tie and shoe. Head reglued and join retouched. Filled chip to nose and hat.
