Staffordshire figure with a maritime theme which features a sailor standing on a boat holding a flag, stood on an oblong base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the reverse. Book reference not found.
Generally good. A few paint losses to boat and flag pole. A few abrasions to the reverse of the sailors hat. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the sailor’s nose and top of boat; craze lines to the sailor’s neck and reverse of base; glaze run to the boat; flecks of stray coloured glaze to the reverse. RESTORATION. Section of base reglued and join retouched. Stabilised and retouched cracks to base. Retouched paint losses to hair, tie, belt, blue section of flag and both ends of boat.
