Object Description

Staffordshire clock group with a religious theme which features John Wesley preaching from a pulpit above a clock face, stood on an oval base. The piece is titled, ‘WESLEY’ . Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front. Vent hole to the reverse. Book reference ,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 148, figure 376.

Object Condition

Good. Some rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage lines to the front and the reverse; flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front; thin glaze application to Wesley’s gown. RESTORATION. Retouched flake to finger.
