Object Description

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver beaker – boxed; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver beaker has a tapering cylindrical form onto a swept foot.

The body of the antique silver beaker is embellished with a wide variety of British coins* and medals, visible from the anterior and interior surfaces, including:

The upper portion of the body is ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription ‘Hugh Arthur Jasper de Symonds Barrow 1900’.

The subtly flared upper rim is encompassed with an applied moulded border.

The underside of this impressive antique silver coin beaker bears the contemporary engraved inscription ‘This cup weighting OZ 7.5 was made to receive 25 coins of 1688, William III, 1702’.

The centre of the base is further ornamented with the reverse of a coin; the anterior surface of which can be seen from the interior.

This exceptional antique silver beaker is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with a hinged catch.

The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark ‘By Appointment, Elkington & Co’ below a royal coronet and the initials VR denoting Queen Victoria.

The exterior leatherette surface of the box bears the initials ‘H.A.J. DE. S.B.’.
