Object Description
Striking Antique Heriz Carpet, c. 1900
3.40 x 2.62 m
Early Heriz carpets from north-west Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction and creative vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs. They have always stood out for their aesthetically appealing designs. The tribal characteristics of Heriz carpets give them the ability to blend in both contemporary and classic spaces.
A striking c. 1900’s Heriz carpet with a rare ivory field and spontaneous drawing. This is a departure from the traditional central medallion motif, usually found in earlier examples from the mid-19th century.
The ivory central colour field provides a great backdrop to the colour palette in the design including sage greens, light blues and terracotta reds, framed by a wide, blue-grey, tripartite border, all in gracefully aged vegetable dyes.
This antique Heriz carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use, still retaining its original fringes and inner borders on both sides.
A one-of-a-kind example, to suit a stylish setting.
