Object Description
Striking Northwest Persian Runner
4.20 x 1.09 m
‘North West’ refers to a myriad group of villages with weaving styles borrowed from a wide range of influences from the surrounding regions, particularly Turkey and the Caucasus, and often including unique, tribal interpretations of sophisticated workshop weavings from further South.
This 19th Century North West Persian Long Runner has artistic design characteristics derived from earlier Azerbaijani rugs of the 18th Century. The spacious pomegranate design symbolizes prosperity, fertility and longevity. The rare ivory field contrasts beautifully with the harmonious array of vegetable dyed colours in its design, which have taken on a fine patina with age.
In very good to excellent condition, still retaining its unopened fringes – remarkable for a rug over 120 years old.
A unique example of its type, to add personality and charisma to any setting.
