A splendid garniture of seven graduated silver platters dating to the mid 1700’s. Of oval form with shaped gadroon borders. Hand engraved to the centre rim of each plate is a widow’s armorial for Elizabeth Scrimshire.

Large dish (1) 50cm x 37cm (19.6 ins x 14.5 ins).
Medium dish (2) 42.3cm x 27.8cm (16.6 ins x 10.9 ins).

Marks. All have clear and matching English silver hallmarks stamped on the reverse edge.
Arms. These are for Elizabeth Scrimshaw d.1756, widow of William Scrimshaw of Codgrave.

William Cripps, apprenticed to David Willaume II, free 1738. 1st mark as largeworker 1743. 2nd mark 1746. 3rd mark 1751. Died circa 1767. Arthur Grimwade describes Cripps as an accomplished craftsman and versatile exponent of the rococo style who enjoyed considerable clientele.
