Object Description
A charming, Mesopotamian, alabaster amulet in the form of a couchant bull. The animal is depicted in the style that was common in the Late Uruk and Jemdet Nasr Periods: the bull’s body is compact with its legs folded under the torso and the head turned to the side. The elongated head ends in a segmented round muzzle and features small circular ears, curved horns, and large circular eye sockets. The majority of the amulet is covered with a pattern of evenly spaced circular incisions, that possibly held inlays of lapis lazuli or other semi-precious stone. Please be aware that the amulet is not pierced for suspension.
