Object Description
This superb quality crested George II Irish silver loving cup was made in Dublin C1745 by James Whitthorne and measures 4.5 inches tall by 7 inches handle to handle and is 4 inches in dia across the top and 3 inches across the base, it has a cast and double scrolled handle either side with acanthus leaf thumb piece and is stood on a raised pedestal foot, the body is beautifully engraved all over with flowers and foliage, there is a girdle half way up the body and it is crested to the front with a bulls head rising from a crown. It is hallmarked to the side with the makers mark, Hibernia and a harp and retains its mellow gold interior, a lovely piece of Irish silver in excellent condition weighing 15.30 ounces or 475 grams.
