Object Description

A superb quality early 20th century (circa 1910) carved mahogany open armchair in the Chippendale style.

This armchair consists of an elaborately and finely carved ribbon back design with carved and shaped top rail of acanthus decoration, the uprights also shaped and carved with foliate carved decoration.

This leading down to the central splat consisting of a ribbon back design with carved tassel to the top with carved ribbon design and central carved patera leading down to foliate carved decoration with a gadroon moulding below.

The outswept arms consisting of carved eagle head armrests with carved arm supports and a drop in seat with a moulded seat rail below.

The armchair is supported on carved cabriole legs to the front terminating with a ball and claw foot with outswept legs to the back.

This armchair is in very good condition for age with evidence of some old repairs, it is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
