Object Description
A superb quality Edwardian (circa 1905) freestanding finely carved mahogany kidney shaped desk.
This desk consists of an original kidney shaped brown leather top with tooled edge, mahogany crossbanding and a carved and moulded edge.
This leads down to five cockbeaded drawers, all with relief foliate and husk carved decoration with brass knob handles and mahogany linings, with oval paterae to either side of the central drawer and carved brackets to the top of the kneehole.
The sides having a panel to the top replicating the design of the drawer fronts, the lower shaped panel of figured mahogany with applied astragal moulding.
The back consists of three panels to the top replicating the design of the drawer fronts with two lower shaped panels with applied astragal moulding, the kneehole with carved brackets to the top.
The desk is supported on French style cabriole legs with foliate carved decoration to the knee and leg, terminating with a scroll foot.
This desk is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home – this is a very versatile piece, particularly being freestanding, this item could be used as a desk or dressing table etc.
