Object Description
This set of tall reclaimed garden gates make a beautiful feature as pedestrian gates, bringing style to a garden or yard with their ornate design as well as security with their tight vertical bars. Handcrafted more than a century ago, these wrought iron side gates have stood the test of time. The scrollwork is beautifully preserved and the original latch intact, only flaking paint and light surface rust revealing the age of these elegant antique gates. Supplied with replacement hinges, they are the perfect size for an opening of approximately 221.5cm wide.
Wrought Iron Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
