Object Description
A tall wrought iron side gate originating from the mid 19th century. At more than 150 years old, this antique side gate is in excellent condition, time having weathered the surface with rust while its strong structure has remained intact. Thanks to its wide design, it is a practical size for placement beside a house or in a backyard. Alternatively, it could be used as a wrought iron garden side gate off a spacious lawn or walled garden. The design is simple with scrolls and arrowhead finials across an arched top above narrow vertical rails, suiting gardens and properties of traditional and modern styles alike.
Wrought Iron Side Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
