Object Description

Original watercolour. Signed at lower left partially hidden by frame.
The artist is recorded living in Liverpool in 1888 before moving to Congleton in Cheshire. The Imperial War Museum hold a painting in their collection recording work done by women on the home front during the First World War. The present painting is an intensely detailed study of a local village forge with wonderful characterisation of the blacksmith himself.
