Watercolour painting. Signed and dated1873. Presented in original black and gilt frame.
The lighthouse in the present picture was built in 1759 by John Smeaton (The Smeaton Tower). It stood for 120 years before cracks developed in the rock foundations. It was replaced by the Douglas Tower in 1882, which still stands today.
