William Mellor 1851-1930

William Mellor was a famous Yorkshire based painter who specialised in rich verdant landscapes from his native and neighbouring Counties. He was born in Barnsley and lived in various places in Yorkshire before continuing his illustrious career in Harrogate. This fine example depicts cattle watering in Lake Coniston with the Old Man of Coniston massif in the background. It is a stunning and atmospheric composition which retains its original neat decorative sweet frame in good order. Signed lower left.
