Object Description

Thomas Jeckyll for Barnard Bishop and Barnard.

A rare Aesthetic Anglo-Japanese Walnut coal box with Japanese style circular devises to the front lift up flap, and treble linked circular devises to each side are identical to the circular devices found on some Jeckyll fire insert designs. The brass carrying handle to the top with incised line details, and surprisingly still retains the original tin liner to the inside in very good shape I might add, including its original shaped brass shovel with a turned solid Walnut handle. The whole stands proud on little turned feet. For me Jeckyll takes this design to a higher plane where his attention is drawn to tiniest of details to complete the design by adding decorative decreasing circles to the little hexagonal side nuts. The coal box has hardly been used in the last 140 odd years, and therefore it is in the very best original condition one could ever wish for.
