Object Description
A wonderful contemporary Tiger rug, taking designs from ancient Tibetan tiger rugs using lighter modern colours. Hand-woven using fabulous natural dyes and the softest of wool, these are beautifully created and an appreciation of the weaving history of Tibet and the Tigers revered status in their culture.
Request a home visit, purchase online or book in a showroom visit, we would love to show you these modern Tiger rugs. They are available in varying colours, so please make contact if there is a specific colour you are after.
Tibetan tiger rugs are as culturally fascinating, and as poignantly elusive now as the tigers themselves. In the early 19th century woven tiger rugs became the substitute for the increasingly scarce Indian tiger pelts. The small number produced remained within the monasteries, and unlike other works of Tibetan art appeared outside Tibet only in 1976, when an example was taken to the USA.
