Object Description

A Portable brass timepiece contained in a wooden carrying box, with a fascinating military history.

The clock has a brass bezel engraved 76 TH BATTERY RFA OFFICE. The 76th Battery of the Royal Field Artillery arrived in The South African Cape on 21st January 1900 to fight in The Boer War, and we re given to understand that this clock accompanied them.

It is housed in a crude varnished wooden carrying case with a brass handle, with a slotted front and rear for transferring the wooden protection sheet.

8-day timepiece movement.

The clock has a 5-inch enamel dial, subsidiary seconds dial and blued steel hands, behind a bevelled glass door.
