Object Description

In their beautiful original sea green paint, now timeworn, the near pair of pine chests of four drawers each, formerly being the pedestals for different desks, now acting as side table chests or bedside tables, each with their original ebonised knob handles and surviving from early Victorian period England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

Beautifully idiosyncratic, gloriously decorative and untouched, telling a real story thus far.

Object Condition

The drawers glide smoothly to each with some old paper labels remaining to the drawer fronts such as ‘Table Cutlery’ and ‘Very Old Coaching Lamp Glosses’ etc. These prove charming but could of course be removed if so desired. One of the handles has been replaced with a cup handle which again adds to their wonky charm. One chest has two sides that remains unpainted and the other with one side remaining unpainted, with one having a carded back and one without backboards.
