Object Description
These beautiful late 19th-Century fauteuils (armchairs) are designed in the style of furniture crafted in France in the Louis XVI period (1774-92).
The chairs’ frames are crafted from carved giltwood, and they are upholstered in a cream coloured fabric. Each chair features an oval back, its frame decorated with ribbon twist patterns, which form bows on their crest rails. The chairs’ arms are scrolled and they are set on curved supports. The seat rails are fluted and the pegged joints above the legs decorated with foliate motifs. Each chair is set on four turned and tapered legs, which are fluted and terminate in toupie feet.
