Object Description

A superb Regency mahogany open armchair with the timber in untouched condition having a later green leather seat.

English Circa 1810.

Of Grecian form, the curved top rail with a paper scroll over a panelled centre flanked by vitruvian scrolls above partial reeded downswept arms, the green leather stuff over seat raised on sabre front legs and splay rear legs.

In superb original condition this chair has only been reupholstered in the past and has a wonderful patina and colour. Very rare to find period chairs in this wonderful natural condition.

Of excellent form and having the initials stamped to the rail TW, which would be the initials of the cabinet maker, this chair would have been highly prized when made.
