Object Description

Anatolian carpets have a rich heritage of rug weaving which began in the 13th century and were amongst the first wave of Oriental carpets that were exported to Europe. Many were seen in iconic paintings of many of the European masters including Memling, Lotto and Hans Holbein. Today these decorative carpets are highly appreciated for their simple designs, soft colours and lustrous wool.

A beautiful Anatolian rug of the early 20th Century with a creative design characteristics inspired by earlier classical pieces of the 17th Century. Its grand scale drawing and colour composition is very unique. The array of vegetable dyed colours have aged nicely .
