Object Description

Isfahan, the ancient capital of Persia, was the creative hub of amazing Persian art and textiles during the 17th-century Safavid period and Isfahan rugs lay claim to this proud tradition. Many of the court-quality carpets that survive today are attributed to Isfahan.

This antique Isfahan carpet has minor age-related wear together with overall muted tones which offer a discreet elegance, allowing it to blend in wonderfully in a historic or tasteful setting.

Object History

This early Isfahan carpet was created before the commercialization of the traditional workshop weaving of the 1920’s.  It, therefore, does not follow a traditional pattern template and is truly a one-off.  The high-density weaving defines the clarity of the crisp drawing. The overall drawing is restrained in comparison to the traditional central medallion motif.

Object Condition

In good very good practical condition for everyday use.
