Object Description

Jean Mayodon. 1893-1967.
A rare ceramic vase of slender baluster shape.
Craquelure glazed stoneware,the colour & texture created close to the look of Galuchat-sanded shagreen,a material which occurs frequently during the Art Deco Period used in the decoration of precious decorative objects & furniture.
There was an appreciation & desire to experience the ‘Exotic’ during the Art Deco Period, helped by the International exhibitions held in Paris during this period.

Object History

Jean Mayodon was a celebrated ceramacist,exhibiting his pieces at the Salon & international exhibitions held in Paris.
He was also commissioned to create large scale decorative objects & architectural elements for several Liners of the period including the Normandie,launched in 1935.
He was a close friend of Jean DESPRÉS & they collaborated in shared exhibitions of their work & Jean Mayodon supplied Jean DESPRÉS with small ceramic plaques to mount in his jewellery.
