Object Description
This Provincial George II silver chocolate pot was made in Exeter C1740 by Pentecost Symonds of Plymouth, it measures 9.5 inches tall by 8.25 inches handle to spout and is 4 3/8 inches in dia across the base, it has a plain body of lighthouse shape with a scrolled wooden handle set into 2 cast silver mounts and the cast swan neck spout is faceted with a drop detail below where it attaches to the pot, the hinged lid has a cast pull out finial to allow the chocolate to be stirred, it is fully hallmarked to the side with a lightly struck maker and date letter – this pot is the one featured on page 230 of Exeter & West Country silver 1700-1900 by Miles Harrison where a photograph can be seen. A very nice pot in very good condition weighing 19.95 ounces or 622 grams.
