An outstanding 19th-century Victorian burr walnut pedestal desk of rare form and exceptional craftsmanship, featuring a richly detailed superstructure with an array of drawers and cabinets. This imposing piece combines function with decorative elegance, boasting intricate marquetry, fine gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, and a wealth of storage throughout.
The upper section comprises a raised cabinet with a shaped pediment adorned with a gilded central plaque, flanked by glazed side doors opening to reveal banks of miniature drawers. The main writing surface is beautifully inset with a hand-coloured hide leather top, framed by detailed inlays. The pedestal base houses a total of nine drawers, all with decorative brass handles and escutcheons.
