Victorian Ebonised Ting-Tang Mantel Clock
Victorian mantel clock housed in an ebonised case with applied ormolu mounts, raised stepped plinth with rope decoration and standing on four brass bun feet. Decorated gilded pillars to either side of the front door and surmounted by gilded finials and swag rope decoration.
Brass dial with raised silvered chapter ring, corner spandrels and matted dial centre. Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands with subsidiary dial in the arch for slow/fast regulation.
Eight day German movement with anchor escapement, quarter Ting-Tang striking on two coiled gongs marked for W & H. c.1890
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Winterhalder and HoFfmeir (W&H) as working in Schwarzenbach (Germany) from 1840 to 1895 when they moved to Neustadt. The firm ceased trading in 1932

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
