Victorian Lantern clock with beautifully pierced frets surmounted by a large bell with centre finial.
Silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and finely matted centre.
The side doors with starburst decoration, eight day spring wound movement by W&H. Quarter ‘Ting-Tang’ striking with two hammers, one inside the case and one underneath the large top mounted bell. C.1890
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Winterhalder and Hoffmeir (W&H) as working in Schwarzenbach (Germany) from 1840 to 1895 when they moved to Neustadt. The firm ceased trading in 1932.
