Object Description
Circa 1870. A very unusual mahogany 2 tier music cabinet. The top with gilded pierced and decorated ¾ gallery. Two cupboards on the top and two large doors on the base. The music cabinet has 45 individual oil paintings on panels, depicting scenes around Edinburgh and Scotland, including Calton Hill and Arthurs Seat. The top doors open revealing 18 individual paintings, small drawers with leather thongs for opening, and a pull-down slide, with further drawers beneath. The base section with two doors, with 5 pull-out slides for containing sheet music, with painted panels on both sides. There are painted panels on the side of the cabinet also. Beneath, the doors is a mahogany plinth, resting on 4 squat bun feet.
