Object Description
A 19th century Victorian ship portrait of the brig “Osprey of Inverkeithing” entering Leghorn harbour.
The painting is attributed to the Italian ship portraitist Luigi P Renault. Renault worked mostly in Livorno (Leghorn) and Trieste in Italy and was the official marine portraitist to King Victor Emanuel.
The low part of the painting reads “Brig Osprey of Inverkeithing, Thomas McAllan Commander Entering Leghorn 1864”.
The painting does have crazing and some damage as can be seen under the glass and is held in a slim gilt wood frame. (Circa 1864)
