Object Description

Late Victorian walnut break arch mantel clock standing on a raised plinth and resting on four outswept gilded paw feet and surmounted by four flame finials and a central finial.

Heavy bevelled glass door opening to a brass dial with finely matted centre, silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands. Gilded corner spandrels and a subsidiary dial for slow/fast regulation below the XII.

Gilded silk sound frets to both sides and brass decorative fret to the rear door.

Substantial brass plated eight day movement with ‘Ting-Tang’ quarter striking on two coiled gongs.

The movement numbered 83343 and marked RMS surrounding an engraved rose – The trademark for R.M. Schniekenburger. The firm was well known for making good quality movements for all types of clocks.
