Object Description
Viennese cold-painted bronze Egyptian monument letterbox by Bergman
Austrian, c. 1900
Height 46cm, width 39cm, depth 28cm
Demonstrating the very best of Bergman, this wonderful cold-painted bronze sculpture depicts an exotic Egyptian temple. The temple, the surface of which is profusely decorated with hieroglyphs and bas-reliefs, rises from an outcrop of land, upon which is placed three figures: one guard, who stands before the temple, and two passers-by, each of whom attends to a camel. The quality of the casting is superb, matched by the superb cold-painted surfaces. The piece, which is a sculpture in every right, also functions as a letterbox. It is marked to the reverse with Bergman’s seal.
